Throne Day: Al Hoceima Protesters, Repentant Terrorists among 4,764 Inmates granted Royal Pardon

On the occasion of Throne Day, celebrated this July 30, King Mohammed VI has granted royal pardon to 4,764 inmates and people sentenced by courts but benefitting from liberty.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Justice on Monday, the list of the pardoned inmates includes protesters who were arrested and convicted following the social unrest in Al Hoceima, Northeastern Morocco.

The list also includes individuals who were convicted in terrorism cases but who took part in the 4th edition of the Reconciliation Program (Mussalaha), the Justice Ministry said, adding that the royal pardon was granted to these inmates after they officially and clearly expressed their attachment to the unwavering and sacred values of the nation and its national institutions, reviewed their ideological tendencies and rejected extremism and terrorism.

Some inmates were pardoned for humanitarian reasons, notably people with incurable or serious diseases or with severe disabilities, elderly, minors, pregnant women or mothers imprisoned with kids.

Royal pardon was also granted to well-behaving inmates who received qualification certificates and underwent training to encourage them integrate society as active individuals.

The King grants pardon to inmates on the occasion of religious and national holidays.
