PPS Party Renews Trust in its Secretary General Benabdallah

Nabil Benabdallah was re-elected for a third term as Secretary General of the leftist Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS), a member of the PJD-led coalition government.

The election took place in the 10th congress of the party. Benabdallah won the vote with a sweeping majority over his challenger Said Fakak, fostering his leadership of the former communist party.

The 10th congress, held under the slogan “New Democratic Approach”, also approved the Central Committee, the Political Control and Arbitration Committee and the Financial Control Committee.

Born in Rabat in 1959, Nabil Benabdallah started his career as a translator in Moroccan courts. Between 1997 and 2000, he was executive director of the PPS official newspapers al-Bayan and Bayan al-Yawm.

In 2010, he was elected as the Secretary General of the PPS party, succeeding Moulay Ismail Alaoui.

Benabdallah, who held several ministerial portfolios, was dismissed from his latest position as Housing Minister under the current PJD-led government by King Mohammed VI due to the dysfunctions that were experienced in implementing Al Hoceima projects.
