Celebration of 12th Anniversary of Launch of Eco-Schools Program in Morocco

Chairwoman of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environment Protection, Princess Lalla Hasna, presided over the celebration of the 12th Anniversary of the launch of Eco-Schools Program in Morocco.
The Eco-Schools program is one of the Foundation’s flagships to make education for sustainable development an integral part of schools syllabi and pupils’ education.

During the celebration ceremony that took place at an eco-school in Ain-Aouda, some 30 KM from Rabat, Friday, Princess Lalla Hasna, the youngest sister of King Mohammed VI, talked with the school’s monitoring committee and with the pupils, aged between five to twelve, about their school’s experience started in 2010 and about their daily eco-gestures and good practices, mainly regarding water management, energy saving and biodiversity preservation.

They also discussed the problems of climate change and energy through a game put online by the Foundation to raise awareness about these major issues.
The pupils proudly informed the royal visitor about their initiatives to sort out and recycle waste or to save water in irrigating the school garden.

The eco-schools program, developed by the International Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and introduced in Morocco by the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, in cooperation with the Education Ministry, twelve years ago, is destined to educate children at an early age and in primary schools to the basics of ecological behavior.

The program is currently implemented in nearly 1,925 schools where more than 717,853 pupils are enrolled.
