Morocco re-elected to OMI Council
Morocco has been re-elected to the Council of the London-based International Maritime Organization (OMI), in a vote that confirms Morocco’s standing within the organization and the trust it enjoys among other member states.
This is Morocco’s fourth re-election for a two-year mandate since the country first made it to the council of the OMI in 2011, which comprises 40 member states.
The vote, which took place during the 30th IMO assembly in London, is the reward of steady efforts led by the Moroccan diplomacy together with the ministry of transportation and the department of fisheries, the Moroccan news agency commented.
A Moroccan delegation, led by state secretary for transportation Mohamed Najib Boulif, is taking part in the 30th IMO assembly held from November 26 to December 6.
Morocco joined IMO in 1962, and since then it has been very involved in supporting the organization’s actions to reinforce sea security, fight pollution and improve the living conditions of sailors.
