Morocco and South Korea Near Completion of Joint Customs Digitalization and AI Project

Morocco’s customs authority (ADII) and the Korea Customs Service (KCS) are nearing the completion of a joint project on digital transformation and artificial intelligence. The project was reviewed at a meeting in Rabat that gathered ADII director general Mohammed Ezzahaoui, senior KCS and CUPIA officials, and Korean Ambassador to Morocco Yoon Yeonjean, according to an ADII statement issued on Thursday.

The project is in its final phase. KCS entrusted its implementation to Okestro, and work began in Rabat in May 2026, with expert missions alternating between Morocco and Korea, as well as seminars and site visits. Participants included ADII operational teams, the Information Systems Directorate and the Innovation Center, who examined big data and AI techniques, with a focus on revenue management systems and digital governance.

ADII said the partnership reflects its commitment to using digital technology to improve performance, simplify procedures and enhance customs services.

Morocco World News platform which relayed the ADII statement recalled that the two countries have had diplomatic ties since 1962, bilateral trade was about $550 million in 2024, and exploratory talks on a trade and investment framework began in June 2024. Last June, Korean Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo and Moroccan officials agreed to set up a working group toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

The platform also recalled Morocco’s “AI Made in Morocco” 2030 roadmap, which targets MAD 100 billion in added value, 50,000 jobs and 200,000 AI specialists. In September, the country unveiled a sovereign AI marketplace and Idarati, an AI assistant for administrative procedures, plus the first tools from its Mistral AI partnership: Arabic dialect identification, including Darija, and speech recognition that transcribes Darija with code-switching.
