Stellantis to Launch Fiat Fastback and Grizzly, Built in Morocco, Three Months After Kénitra Production Start

Stellantis is preparing the commercial launch of two Fiat models built at its Kénitra plant, the Fastback and the Grizzly, Aujourd’hui le Maroc reports. The announcement comes three months after a July 2026 ceremony marked the start of production on the new Smart Car platform, which the paper describes as reviving Fiat models a little over two decades after production of the brand’s famous economy car ended.

Yves Peyrot des Gachons, managing director of Stellantis Morocco, said the models show the company can develop and produce vehicles in Morocco for many markets, with multi-energy engines. He said the aim is to deepen local integration and develop the supplier ecosystem. The Fastback is described as dynamic and lifestyle-oriented, the Grizzly as a spacious family SUV, with powertrains from combustion to electric.

Kénitra now combines vehicle assembly, engine production and micromobility. Its annual capacity is 400,000 passenger vehicles, 135,000 micromobility vehicles and 350,000 engines. A 2025 extension, worth €1.2 billion including €702 million of supplier investment, aims to double capacity with a 75% integration rate by 2030. Total national capacity could reach one million vehicles in 2030.

Samir Cherfan, operations director for Stellantis Middle East and Africa, said the project has exceeded its targets. A mild-hybrid engine assembly phase began in May 2025, and a machining phase is due from November 2026.

The paper also reports that Stellantis Salaf, which became the group’s captive finance arm in Morocco on July 1, 2026, marked its first year since FIDIS acquired AXA Crédit in September 2025. It aims to build financing into the purchase journey and support the dealer network.
