Guizhou Tyre Co. Ltd (GTC) has launched in Tangier construction works of a $300 million tire plant, which will be the Chinese group’s second overseas tire manufacturing base.
The ground breaking ceremony took place Wednesday at Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City, in presence of representatives of local authorities and businesses, as well as international customers and suppliers.
The construction of the Moroccan tire plant is expected to take around eight months, followed by a few months more for the installation of tire manufacturing equipment. After that, the first tires are expected to roll off the production line in the fourth quarter of 2027.
The Tangier tire facility is expected to produce annually 6 million units of passenger car tire for the local and international automotive industry.
The plan to build the new production facility in Morocco was approved by the firm in Januray 2026.
