Morocco’s Airports Handled Nearly 30 Mln Passengers in first Nine Months of 2026

Morocco’s airports handled 29.3 million passengers in the first nine months of 2026, up 8.74%, from the same period of last year, according to latest data issued by Moroccan National Office of Airports (ONDA).

Casablanca and Marrakech accounted for nearly 60% of passenger traffic, while Europe remained Morocco’s largest international air market but routes to other African countries and North America recorded faster passenger growth.

Air traffic between Morocco and African countries increased 13.6% to 1.5 million passengers, while the Kingdom’s air traffic with North America rose 13.2 % to 771,932.

From January to September, Morocco’s Airports recorded 214,607 aircraft movements, a 9.7 pc increase compared to the same period in 2025. Air cargo volumes also rose 14.29% to 83,744.45 tons.

With the growing number of inbound travellers, Morocco has unveiled a $4.2 billion airports strategy aimed at upgrading and expanding key airports over the next five years and doubling annual passenger capacity from 38 million to 80 million passengers by 2030 which coincides the FIFA World Cup to be co-organized by the Kingdom, Spain and Portugal.

Morocco is also planning the expansion of several regional airports and the construction of new airport near Casablanca to accommodate up to 40 million travellers and connect the country to long-haul destinations.

The North African Kingdom is working to establish itself as a major global and regional aviation hub. Given the growing importance of aviation to Morocco’s economy, the Moroccan airports strategy is expected to have a far-reaching and positive impact on the Kingdom’s economic and social development.
