Mining boom and major projects drive higher profits for Casablanca Stock Exchange companies

Listed companies on the Casablanca Stock Exchange posted strong first-half 2026 results, with aggregate turnover rising 10.6% to 196 billion dirhams from 177.3 billion a year earlier, according to an analytical report by brokerage and research firm M.S.IN released in early October.

Overall net profits grew 7.4% to 29.4 billion dirhams, up 2.04 billion dirhams from 27.4 billion previously.

This marks the highest level of combined profits for listed firms since the first half of 2018, when the figure stood at 16.2 billion dirhams, nearly 1.8 times lower.

The mining sector’s growth surged 145% (an increase of 7.8 billion dirhams). Mining companies alone contributed about 3.6 billion dirhams to the rise in overall profits, with their combined net earnings climbing from 563 million dirhams to 4.2 billion dirhams. Managem Group led the pack, reporting turnover of 11.8 billion dirhams (up 166%) and net profits of roughly 3.8 billion dirhams, compared with 380 million a year earlier.

Insurance ranked second in turnover growth (+3.2 billion dirhams, or +21.2%), followed by distributors (+2.4 billion dirhams, or +15.9%) and the oil and gas sector (+1.1 billion dirhams, or +8.8%).

Analysts at M.S.IN attributed the solid performance to several supportive factors. Strong rises in metal prices boosted mining companies’ revenues.

Inflation remained under control, staying below 2% throughout the first half despite the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East on February 28, 2026, which had raised fears of renewed energy-driven price pressures.

A more favorable agricultural season in 2025/2026, dynamic real-estate and construction activity supported by the housing assistance program and ongoing efforts against informal housing, and the launch of road, hotel, and sports projects linked to the 2030 World Cup also helped.

Strong performance in the life insurance segment provided an additional lift.In the banking sector, net banking income for listed banks rose 1.34% to 49.7 billion dirhams, driven by growth in interest margins (+8.1%) and commission margins (+6.6%), which offset a 22.7% drop in market activities.
