NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Southern Neighborhood, Javier Colomina, has conferred lthis week in Rabat with senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, and the Royal Armed Forces.
Talks focused on NATO-Morocco relations, regional security, and cooperation prospects, building on the strong foundations established over the past three decades, says a press release issued by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Discussions also covered developments in North Africa and the Sahel region, as well as shared security challenges, including terrorism, maritime security and other emerging threats.
Special Representative Colomina has described Morocco as “a key partner in the region” and said NATO-Morocco cooperation can only get stronger.
Morocco has been part of the Mediterranean Dialogue since 1994, and was the first partner in the framework to conclude an Individually Tailored Partnership Program (ITPP).
Special Representative Colomina also participated in the Small Arms and Light Weapons conference, co-hosted by NATO and Morocco October 6-7. This was the first regional conference, organized with partner countries, as part of the implementation of NATO’s Southern Neighborhood Action Plan endorsed at the Washington Summit in 2024.
