Morocco will celebrate National Day for Moroccans Living Abroad on August 10 under the theme “MRE at the Service of Morocco’s 2030 Projects,” the ministry responsible for the diaspora announced, framing the occasion as part of King Mohammed VI’s continued attention to the Moroccan community abroad.
As in previous years, celebrations will be held across the kingdom’s prefectures and provinces in coordination with the Interior Ministry, allowing expatriates who are back in Morocco for the summer to take part on a large scale, according to a statement from the department of Moroccans living abroad, part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad.
First established by King Mohammed VI in 2003 and marked every year on August 10, the day is meant to strengthen ties between expatriates and their homeland, highlighting both their achievements and their expectations at a moment the ministry described as shaped by significant transformations and challenges.
This year’s edition comes as Morocco accelerates a series of strategic infrastructure and development projects looking toward 2030, spanning infrastructure expansion, investment attraction, digital and energy transitions, water resource management and public service modernization, alongside preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup, which the ministry described as an exceptional opportunity to reinforce socioeconomic and territorial development.
The celebrations are also intended to showcase the contributions of Moroccan expatriate talent in scientific, economic, technological and cultural fields, while addressing the challenges this community faces, with the ministry saying the day will help strengthen communication and support mechanisms, deepen expatriates’ engagement with national development projects, and highlight their role in advancing the kingdom’s strategic undertakings.
