Morocco has launched a new construction tender for the outer shell of Grand Stade Hassan II near Casablanca, a key project in the country’s preparations for the 2030 World Cup that is expected to become the world’s largest football stadium with a capacity of 115,000 spectators.
The National Agency for Public Equipment, acting on behalf of the government, has opened bidding for the stadium’s outer shell and surrounding infrastructure, a contract valued at 763 million dirhams, local newspaper L’Economiste reported.
The stadium is being built in Benslimane province, around 30 km from Casablanca.
The venue forms the centerpiece of Morocco’s infrastructure plans for the 2030 World Cup, which it will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
The broader project includes training facilities, hotels, a conference center and parking areas spread over a 100-hectare site.
Main structural works already under way are valued at 3.2 billion dirhams, according to the report.
Designed by architecture firms Populous and Oualalou + Choi, the stadium takes inspiration from the traditional Moroccan tent and is intended to serve as a landmark venue long after the tournament.
The Grand Stade Hassan II is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, giving Morocco time to test and operate the venue before the 2030 World Cup.
