The Court of Arbitration for sport (CAS) has flatly denied having issued a ruling regarding the appeal lodged by the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). The appeal concerns a CAF decision on 17 March 2026 declaring that the Senegal national team forfeited the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 and recording the Moroccan national team as the winners of the match by 3-0.
The Court has affirmed in an email that the process related to the case is still continuing and has not reached the verdict stage, exposing the lies broadcast by Algerian state TV and social media networks falsely claiming that Senegal has won the case.
But it is just hot air and part of a misleading campaign orchestrated by the Algerian regime to deflect the public attention and growing popular anger following disappointing World Cup run of the Algerian football team.
Following the Appeal submitted by the Senegalese football federation with CAS, an arbitration panel had been appointed so far. No hearing or decision date has been set. The case is still in its early stages.
CAF Appeal Board had ruled that Senegal forfeited the final match of AFCON 2025 by walking off the pitch, with the result being recorded as a 3-0 victory for the Atlas Lions.
The African Confederation said Senegal has contravened articles 82 and 84 of the competition regulations of CAF. Article 82 states that if a team “leaves the ground before the regular end of the match without the authorization of the referee,” they are eliminated.
Article 83 states that a team “not present at the ground” on time for a match will also forfeit. Article 84 states a team contravening articles 82 and 83 will be removed from the competition.
