French PM to Visit Morocco as Both Countries Prepare New Partnership Treaty

French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu will visit Morocco on July 15-16 at the head of a delegation of 10 ministers, as Rabat and Paris work on a new cooperation treaty and deepen economic ties, Moroccan media reported.

Lecornu is due to arrive in Rabat on July 15 and hold talks with Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch before the two leaders co-chair a plenary session of the High Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation the following day, according to Moroccan media reports.

The meeting is expected to result in the signing of several agreements across a range of sectors including investment, infrastructure, energy, innovation and institutional cooperation.

The visit comes as Morocco and France seek to translate a political rapprochement into a more structured long-term partnership, with officials from both countries preparing a new bilateral cooperation treaty aimed at updating the framework governing relations between Rabat and Paris.

The gathering will be one of the most significant meetings between the two governments since the appointment of France’s new ambassador to Morocco, Philippe Lalliot, and follows months of intensified diplomatic engagement between the two capitals.

Bilateral trade reached a record 14.8 billion euros in 2024, with Morocco accounting for more than 40% of French exports to Africa, particularly in transport equipment, electronics, chemicals and cosmetics. French imports from Morocco also rose 4.4% last year.

The discussions are expected to cover investment, industrial cooperation, energy transition projects and infrastructure, reflecting Morocco’s growing role as a manufacturing and logistics platform for European companies seeking to diversify supply chains closer to home.
