Senior US and Italian officials have held talks with Libyan stakeholders focused on accelerating efforts to unify Libya’s political, economic, and military institutions as part of a broader international stabilization agenda.
US Presidential Adviser for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos met Italian Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser Fabrizio Saggio and Saddam Haftar to discuss progress on Libya’s institutional reunification, following Haftar’s recent visit to Washington.
According to statements shared on social media, the discussions highlighted cooperation between US Africa Command (AFRICOM) and the Italian military during Flintlock 2026 exercises, alongside plans to strengthen Libya’s border security and broader regional stability efforts.
The talks build on earlier meetings in Washington involving Libyan officials and US National Security Council representatives, where momentum toward consolidating Libya’s fragmented military and governance structures was reaffirmed.
The initiative, led in part by Boulos, envisions a transitional framework of two to three years aimed at unifying State institutions ahead of national elections, with Washington indicating that consensus-based negotiations will precede a final agreement under international auspices.
