Morocco expands farm trade surplus with EU in early 2026

Morocco expanded its agricultural and food trade surplus with the European Union in the first two months of 2026, as a sharp decline in EU exports to the North African country outpaced a more modest drop in Moroccan shipments to the bloc, European Commission data showed.

EU imports of Moroccan agro‑food products totaled 800 million euros ($864 million) in January-February, down 2% from a year earlier, while EU exports to Morocco fell 18% to 561 million euros, according to figures published by the Commission’s agriculture department (DG Agri).

That widened Morocco’s trade surplus with the EU to 239 million euros over the period, compared with 135 million euros a year earlier.

The drop in EU exports to Morocco was driven mainly by lower shipments of cereals, beef and soybean oil, DG Agri said.

By contrast, EU imports from Morocco proved more resilient, slipping only slightly from 819 million euros in early 2025 to 800 million euros this year.
