Mauritania’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Development, Abdallahi Souleymane Sheikh Sidiya, held talks with President of the African Development Bank Sidi Ould Tah on strengthening economic and financial cooperation between Mauritania and the African institution.
The meeting took place on Sunday, May 24 in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, on the sidelines of the AfDB Annual Meetings being held from 25 to 29 May.
Discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two sides and supporting Mauritania’s development priorities. The minister reviewed ongoing AfDB-funded projects in the country valued at approximately US$645.9 million and expressed appreciation for the Bank’s continued support across key sectors of the economy.
Sidiya also outlined the efforts being made to expand future investment opportunities and strengthen economic growth. He stressed the need for greater financing support for the private sector to help businesses overcome challenges and drive job creation.
The minister pointed to recent Government reforms, including the establishment of the Nouakchott Stock Exchange, the creation of a financial markets regulatory authority, and updates to the country’s Public Procurement Code.
For his part, AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah welcomed the reforms undertaken by Mauritania and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting key development projects and deepening cooperation to address Africa’s development challenges.
