OCP Positions Phosphate Science at the Center of Food Security at SIAM 2026

The OCP Group used its pavilion at SIAM 2026 in Meknès to present a comprehensive case for the role of phosphate chemistry across the full agricultural value chain, from soil fertility and crop production through to animal feed and livestock performance. Designed around the journey of the phosphorus molecule from mine to table, the pavilion aligns with the salon’s central theme of animal production sustainability and food sovereignty.
OCP’s strategic pivot in recent years has shifted the group from volume-based fertilizer sales to solution-based, precision agronomic services. The limitation of standardized fertilization — uniform nutrient application regardless of soil type, crop stage, or climate — generates waste, environmental pressure, and sub-optimal yields. The alternative is customized fertilizer formulations built on soil analysis and agronomic data, which OCP frames around the 4R methodology: the right nutrient, at the right rate, at the right time, in the right place.
A key scientific argument concerns the decoupling of phosphorus and nitrogen application across the plant cycle. Phosphorus is most critical at early root development stages; nitrogen matters more during vegetative growth and flowering. Applying both simultaneously in fixed ratios compromises efficiency and environmental outcomes. OCP’s subsidiary OCP Nutricrops is developing product lines that reflect this lifecycle logic, moving from ingredient supply toward agronomic outcome delivery.
The group’s contribution to food security extends directly into animal nutrition through its Specialty Products & Solutions subsidiary, which markets the Phosfeed range of feed-grade phosphates. These products address mineral balance in livestock rations, supporting growth performance, reproductive health, and overall herd productivity — a direct link between phosphate science and the quality of protein available to consumers.
OCP’s presence at SIAM 2026 reflects its broader ambition to be recognized not merely as a commodity exporter but as a systemic partner in global food security. As the world’s largest phosphate producer and exporter, and a growing force in downstream fertilizer innovation, OCP occupies a structurally unique position at the intersection of mining, chemistry, agronomy, and nutrition.
