Libya’s Emergency Medicine and Support Centre has recovered 17 bodies of irregular migrants from the shores of the western city of Zwara and surrounding areas on Sunday, April 19.
Fourteen of the deceased have been buried in line with official procedures.
Libya remains a major transit hub for migrants seeking to reach Europe, owing to its proximity and extensive Mediterranean coastline. Zwara, located about 120 km from Tripoli near the Tunisian border, has increasingly become a key departure point for journeys towards Europe, particularly Italy.
