Civil society organizations in Tetouan province have intensified solidarity initiatives, complementing public authority efforts to provide social and psychological support to children and families affected by devastating floods. Coordinated interventions reflect comprehensive responses addressing both immediate material needs and longer-term mental health concerns emerging from the crisis.
In coordination with local authorities, civil society associations implement initiatives benefiting temporarily evacuated citizens whose homes flooded from overflowing wadis, whether in Tetouan city or surrounding communes. These social solidarity efforts encompass psychological accompaniment for affected persons, climate hazard risk awareness campaigns, and recreational and sports activities for children from impacted families.
The bureau of the National Union of Moroccan Women (UNFM) Jamaa Mezouak, cooperating with Moroccan Red Crescent and partnering with Tetouan provincial authorities, organized Tuesday a humanitarian initiative at Tetouan’s Torreta vacation center benefiting flood-affected children and families. The morning program featured educational activities and collective games designed to bring joy and fulfillment while alleviating psychological pressures from exceptional circumstances.
UNFM Jamaa Mezouak President Hafida Charif emphasized the initiative forms part of social and psychological support programs the Union implements partnering with Tetouan provincial authorities, noting accompaniment continues until the exceptional situation concludes. El Ayachi Souaâli, coordinator at Red Crescent’s Lalla Malika Center for volunteer and health personnel training in Tetouan, indicated volunteers mobilized alongside public authorities from day one, supporting efforts and providing psychological and health assistance.
Beyond paramedical services, Moroccan Red Crescent collaborates with associative partners organizing recreational activities for children across accommodation centers opened by authorities in Tetouan and M’diq-Fnideq while distributing blankets and clothing to vulnerable categories, particularly children and women. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for humanitarian attention, praising active public authority roles and institutional support consolidating societal solidarity culture.
