Morocco continues solidifying its strategic platform status in the electric vehicle industry, attracting growing numbers of international investors as its clean energy vehicle manufacturing ecosystem expands through successive major industrial player arrivals. Shanghai Ingin Auto Technology marks the latest entrant reinforcing this industrial momentum following announcements from Shanghai Jinxiu Shanhe Automotive Technology and Sino-European group Gotion High-Tech’s Kenitra battery gigafactory.
Ingin Auto specializes in developing and producing intelligent closure systems for the automotive industry, according to Challenge magazine. The group plans establishing an industrial unit within Tanger Tech platform, an expanding industrial hub targeting high-technology industries. The new facility will manufacture electric vehicle trunks, an evolving segment driven by electric and intelligent vehicle growth.
Local subsidiary Ingin Intelligent Morocco will carry the project, investing over 200 million dirhams. This installation represents a strategic milestone as the Chinese group’s first international industrial expansion. Founded in 2017 in Shanghai, the company rapidly established itself through research and development expertise and advanced technological solutions, including automated opening systems like intelligent trunks, electric sliding doors, and motorized tailgates.
Morocco’s selection for this inaugural overseas establishment stems partly from major international automaker presence, including Stellantis—a principal client. Stellantis produces several hundred thousand vehicles annually under Peugeot, Citroën, and Fiat brands at its Atlantic Free Zone facility in Kenitra. This industrial proximity enables Ingin to optimize supply chains and strengthen partner relationships.
The investment further consolidates Morocco’s automotive industrial hub status in Africa and the Euro-Mediterranean region. The Kingdom’s attractiveness rests on infrastructure quality, strategic geographical position, and public policies favoring industries linked to energy transition and sustainable mobility. Morocco’s expanding electric vehicle ecosystem demonstrates capacity to attract sophisticated manufacturers across the value chain—from battery production to advanced component manufacturing—positioning the nation as a comprehensive platform for clean automotive technology development and export.
