King Mohammed VI, chairman of Al-Qods Committee, has been invited by President Donald Trump to join as a Founding Member the Peace Council that Trump is planning to launch as an initiative to “contribute to peace efforts in the Middle East”, said the Moroccan foreign affairs ministry in a statement released Monday.
The Monarch has accepted Trump’s invitation to join the Peace Council set to “adopt a new approach to resolving conflicts around the world,” said the statement.
This Council is reserved for a small group of leaders of international stature, committed to a secure and prosperous future for mounting generations, added the statement, affirming that this invitation is a recognition of the royal leadership and the King’s stature as an important actor of peace. It also testifies to the confidence that the Sovereign has in the President of the United States and the international community.
The Monarch has welcomed Trump’s commitment and vision for the promotion of peace. Morocco will ratify the Constitutive Charter of this Council which seeks to promote stability, restore governance and ensure lasting peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict.
Morocco has also welcomed the announcement of the launch of the second phase of President Trump’s global peace plan, as well as the official creation of the National Committee for the administration of Gaza as a temporary transitional body.
Rabat has reiterated on this occasion its constant commitment to a just, global and lasting peace in the Middle East and to the establishment of a Palestinian State on the basis of the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
