Morocco receives first batch of WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles from India’s Tata Advanced Systems

The first batch of WhAP 8×8 armored vehicles produced by India’s Tata Advanced Systems’ plant in Morocco has been delivered to Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces (FAR), marking what the Indian defense group calls “a major milestone” in its strategic partnership with the Kingdom.

The vehicles are produced under the “Made in Morocco” label, reinforcing Morocco’s ambitions to develop a robust defense industrial base, the Indian manufacturer said on social media.

The WhAP 8×8 (Wheeled Armored Platform) is Tata’s flagship infantry combat vehicle and the first amphibious wheeled platform developed in India.

Designed for high survivability, superior off-road mobility, and enhanced firepower, the WhAP features a modular architecture adaptable to diverse missions and operational environments.

Developed jointly with India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the vehicle integrates next-generation technologies, including an advanced powertrain with automatic transmission and full amphibious capability. Its performance has been validated through rigorous trials in extreme terrains and climates, benchmarked against leading international standards.

This delivery follows the inauguration of Tata Advanced Systems Maroc (TASM) on September 23 in Berrechid. The facility, the first of its kind in Morocco, is dedicated to producing WhAP 8×8 combat vehicles for the FAR, with plans to expand toward African export markets.

Starting with a 35% local integration rate, TASM aims to reach 50% in the medium term, creating 90 direct jobs and about 250 indirect jobs while fostering an advanced defense ecosystem and upskilling local talent.

Equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and international standards, TASM is positioned as a regional hub for armored vehicle production and export, targeting high-potential African markets.
