Libya forms supreme council to harmonize national decision-making

Libya’s Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity have announced on Thursday, November 20, the creation of a Supreme Council of Presidencies, a body designed to unify national decision-making across political, economic and security matters.

The Council was established during a founding meeting in Tripoli attended by leaders of the Presidential Council, the Government of National Unity and the High Council of State.

According to official statements, the body will not form a new institution but will serve as a coordinating framework to strengthen policy alignment and preserve national stability through regular and emergency consultations.

The move comes as Libya remains politically divided between the internationally recognized, western-based administration and the eastern-based government supported by the House of Representatives. The eastern authority has yet to comment on the new council’s formation, which aims to enhance institutional harmony at a time of ongoing national fragmentation.
