Marrakech Hosts 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly for Global Security Cooperation

Marrakech prepares to become the world capital of police cooperation this November 24 through 27, as it hosts the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly. Over 196 security delegations representing all member countries of the international organization will attend this planetary-scale event.

Official opening ceremonies commence November 24 morning, preceding closed sessions bringing together senior police officials, transnational crime experts, and specialized unit chiefs. These meetings will address pressing contemporary challenges including organized crime, cybersecurity, terrorism, migrant trafficking, money laundering, and criminal network technology exploitation.

The General Assembly, the largest global gathering of law enforcement leaders, is also an excellent opportunity for countries to build relationships and share experiences in parallel discussions that may result in cooperation agreements addressing specific security concerns.

Commenting on the event, INTERPOL President, Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, said that hosting the 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO–INTERPOL) in Marrakech represents international recognition of Morocco’s contribution to global security and of its constant presence in all forums related to safety and security, as well as its active engagement within the Organization.

Organizing such a major event is a further demonstration of the Kingdom’s prominent position as a key actor in various INTERPOL bodies, initiatives, and actions, as well as its sustained support for the Organization, Al-Raisi said during a press conference in Marrakech Friday.

He also praised the Kingdom’s “major and central role” in maintaining global security, noting that Morocco, due to its strategic geographic position at the crossroads of Africa, the Arab world, and Europe, continuously works to facilitate communication and cooperation among the continents.

“There is no doubt that hosting this event, after welcoming security officials from around the world in 2007, once again confirms the Kingdom’s strong commitment to close security cooperation among INTERPOL member countries,” at a time when the world faces multiple significant challenges, particularly in cybersecurity and transnational crime, he stressed.

Al-Raisi also highlighted the Kingdom’s considerable contribution and “very important” role in strengthening African security, noting that Morocco, as INTERPOL Vice President for Africa, spares no effort to promote cooperation with the continent’s states, especially regarding training and joint operations.

“Most of the operations conducted in the region have seen Morocco among the first countries present,” he stressed, expressing appreciation for Morocco’s achievements in the field of security and security cooperation, in Africa, the Arab world, and internationally.

Al-Raisi, who took the opportunity to congratulate Morocco for hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2030 FIFA World Cup, expressed INTERPOL’s confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to successfully host such international sporting events.

He also reviewed the progress achieved by INTERPOL under his mandate, notably the promotion of international cooperation, expansion of the database, increase in the number and scope of joint operations, strengthening women’s participation, and ensuring equal representation of different continents within governing bodies.

Composed of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries, INTERPOL’s General Assembly meets once a year and makes all major decisions regarding general policy, resources necessary for international cooperation, working methods, and finances, which take the form of resolutions.

Marrakech’s selection confirms Morocco’s growing role within global security architecture and reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing toward strengthening worldwide police cooperation and supporting collective efforts combating cross-border criminality. Morocco’s hosting demonstrates its positioning as a reliable security partner bridging African, European, and Middle Eastern law enforcement networks.

The assembly represents an opportunity for Morocco to showcase security sector modernization achievements while facilitating crucial conversations shaping future international crime prevention strategies. The gathering reinforces Morocco’s reputation as a stable nation capable of managing complex diplomatic events requiring sophisticated security protocols and discrete operational coordination among diverse international participants.
