Senegal to complete national gas pipeline by 2027 to cut energy costs

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Senegal’s Minister of Energy, Petroleum and Mines, Birame Soulèye Diop, has announced plans for the completion of a national gas pipeline by 2027.
Speaking in Diamniadio during the 8th edition of the Senegal International Mining Exhibition, Mr. Diop said the project aims to transport natural gas across the country, linking key production sites such as the Yakaar and Teranga fields, which hold world-class reserves sufficient to meet national household gas demand. The pipeline is expected to transform Senegal’s energy landscape by ensuring a stable and secure gas supply while reducing reliance on expensive imports.
This initiative is projected to lower domestic energy costs for households and small businesses, expand access to gas in underserved areas, and generate new jobs in construction, maintenance, and logistics. In the long term, the project could also help stabilise electricity prices and accelerate rural electrification, improving the overall quality of life for Senegalese citizens.
