FIFA U20 World Cup: Morocco Knock out South Korea to advance to Quarter-finals
Morocco secured their place in the quarter finals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025 after a 2-1 win over South Korea in Rancagua on Thursday night.
The first Moroccan goal was scored thanks to an acrobatic effort from Yassir Zabiri, which looked to be heading wide, was diverted into his own net by Shin Minha, giving the Atlas Cubs an early advantage.
Moroccan Zabiri scored the second goal after winger othmane Maamma delivered him a precise cross from the right flank. A Kim Taewon penalty that was the final moment of the contest saw things finish 2-1 and rolled Morocco into the last eight to face USA.
The Moroccans have done it again. They ousted giant after giant to reach fourth-place at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Two years later, the Olympic squad escaped the group stage for the first time and returned home from Paris with a bronze medal.
At the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025, the Atlas Cubs upset global powerhouses Brazil and Spain to top Group C, and defeated South Korea to make it to the last eight for the first time in 20 years.
