Libya: Terror cell dismantled in Tripoli after deadly clash

Libya’s Office of the Military Prosecutor General has announced the dismantling of a “terrorist” cell in Tripoli’s Al-Andalus district, following a deadly raid by a special Interior Ministry unit.

The operation turned violent when members of the cell opened fire, killing three security personnel and wounding another, while two suspects were arrested and one injured.

Two Interior Ministry officers also lost their lives in the exchange. Authorities said the group possessed weapons and explosives intended for attacks on Government forces and officials in the area.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the cell included former prisoners and detainees, with one suspect confessing to links with a brigade led by a senior ISIS commander in Derna, recruited by Osama Najeem.

The prosecutor on site ordered forensic examinations of the deceased, as well as expert analysis of the seized arms and explosives. The Prosecutor General’s Office stressed that the group’s actions amounted to serious crimes under Libyan law, vowing to pursue all necessary legal measures against those involved.
