Tunisia: Railways workers announce three-day strike next fall over longstanding grievances
The Union representing employees of Tunisia’s National Railways Company has announced a three-day nationwide strike scheduled from September 30 to October 2, 2025.
The industrial action will affect all workplaces across the sector, as workers push for comprehensive reforms in employment policies and conditions. Chief among their demands are amendments to the company’s statutes, regularization of university graduates and workers performing duties above their official grade, and the institution of automatic promotions for employees who have served 25 years or more in the same category.
The union is also calling for the reinstatement of workers previously dismissed, an end to legal actions against those who engaged in sectoral protests, and the provision of proper work uniforms. In light of growing human resource constraints, they are demanding the opening of new recruitment channels and the full recognition of employees promoted under schemes from 2017 through 2021.
The planned strike reflects mounting discontent within the sector over perceived stagnation in career progression, resource neglect, and punitive administrative measures.
