EU Commissioner: Morocco, Key & Reliable EU Partner
European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica has described again Morocco as “a key and reliable partner of the European Union.”
“We share a unique relationship and a common goal to deepen our Partnership”, said Wednesday the European Commissioner in her X account following telephone conversation with Moroccan FM Nasser Bourita.
She said they talked about Morocco’s engagement on the New Pact for the Mediterranean.
The EU has extensive ties with Morocco in trade, political and security matters. Morocco plays a key role in the fight against illegal migration and terrorism. Their strategic partnership, which is based on solid foundations of shared values, is a model of the European Neighborhood Policy.
During the European Council meeting held Oct.17, 2024, the European leaders discussed EU-Morocco relations and reaffirmed “the high value the EU attaches to the strategic partnership” with Rabat. They also reiterated the need to strengthen further partnership with Morocco in all areas.
Last November, Morocco urged the EU to defend bilateral partnership with tangible actions not words, alluding to the unfair ruling issued by European Court of Justice scrapping fisheries & agricultural deals with Morocco because they included goods from the southern provinces: the Sahara.
“Morocco expects the EU to prove its commitment to partnership through deeds, not words”, had said Mr. Bourita during a press conference.
In his Green March speech of 2024, King Mohammed VI had affirmed that Morocco’s partnerships and legal obligations will never be at the expense of its territorial integrity or its national sovereignty.
