Morocco hosts NATO-AU military workshop on humanitarian crisis response
Morocco successfully hosted the second edition of the “Regional Endeavour 2025” military workshop last week, bringing together representatives from NATO, the African Union, and military delegations from Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, and Mauritania to enhance regional resilience against humanitarian crises.
The exercise, themed “Military Contribution to Human Security: Preparedness and Resilience,” represents a structured regional coordination program supported by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM). The workshop focused on promoting expertise exchange, inter-military cooperation, and joint crisis management capabilities, particularly addressing the increasingly unstable Sahel-Saharan context.
The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) emphasized through official channels the strategic importance of these joint exercises in strengthening operational preparedness among partners and developing common intervention capabilities for humanitarian crises, natural disasters, and post-conflict situations.
Morocco’s selection as host underscores its emerging role as a central platform for multilateral military dialogue. The Kingdom’s political stability, modern military infrastructure, and geostrategic positioning have established it as a key player in regional security architecture.
Through active defense diplomacy, Rabat seeks to federate cooperative security initiatives addressing growing challenges including disinformation campaigns, non-state armed movements, and transnational terrorism. The diverse participation from African, Arab, and Western delegations reflects growing confidence in Morocco’s operational competence and its status as a stability anchor.
Security experts note Morocco’s evolution into an indispensable regional hub capable of catalyzing collective efforts against hybrid and asymmetric threats, particularly in the Sahel region. This position is reinforced by the Kingdom’s expanding local defense industry, growing armament capabilities, and diversified strategic military partnerships spanning from the United States and NATO to south-south cooperation with African nations.
The workshop represents Morocco’s broader strategy of positioning itself as a bridge between Euro-Atlantic and African security frameworks.
