A delegation from the regional council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur paid a working visit to Laayoune on Monday to review the prospects of strengthening cooperation with the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region in Southern Morocco.
The meeting between the French delegation members and local officials and elects highlighted the strength of Moroccan-French relations and the region’s multisectoral development momentum. The meeting provided opportunity to brief the French delegation on the various projects carried out in the area, as part of the new development model for the Southern provinces launched in 2015.
A presentation was made on the investment projects and prospects in these provinces, covering several leading sectors such as fishing, agriculture, tourism, and renewable energies.
Talks also focused on structural infrastructure projects, as well as the opportunities offered in the transport and logistics field to increase the region’s visibility both nationally and internationally.
In a statement to the press, the head of the French delegation, Jean-Pierre Colin, vice-president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regional council, in charge of Finance and cooperation partnerships, praised the development dynamics and the notable multifaceted progress achieved in this region.
He pointed out that the visit enabled the delegation members to see first-hand the various development projects and programs launched in this part of the Kingdom.
Colin also stressed the importance of the visit, which aims to explore ways of strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two regions in several areas of common interest, notably energy.
The members of the French delegation visited a number of structuring socio-economic projects, including the City of Trades and Skills, the College of Medicine and Pharmacy, the University Hospital Center, and the sports village.
