Royal Air Maroc unveils ambitious fleet expansion to 200 aircraft by 2037
Morocco’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc has outlined transformative growth plans targeting a quadrupling of its fleet to 200 aircraft by 2037, positioning itself as a major global aviation player while preparing to serve as the official airline for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
Transport Minister Abdessamad Kayouh revealed the expansion strategy during question time at Tuesday’s parliamentary session, confirming RAM’s acquisition of five new aircraft in 2025, including three Boeing 787 Dreamliners delivered within two days. The airline plans to add ten more aircraft before year-end and another ten in 2026, each Dreamliner accommodating 302 passengers.
The centerpiece of RAM’s ambitions involves launching a major tender for 188 additional aircraft, supporting a comprehensive 2023-2037 development agreement with the Moroccan state. This expansion aims to increase annual passenger capacity from six million to 31 million while boosting revenue from 15.5 billion dirhams ($1.6 billion) to 100 billion dirhams ($10.4 billion).
International route expansion forms a crucial component, with destinations increasing from 99 in 2023 to a projected 130 cities. This geographic diversification reflects RAM’s determination to establish itself among premier global carriers while strengthening Morocco’s position as an aviation hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
The carrier’s recent partnership with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation ensures RAM’s role as the 2030 World Cup’s official airline, guaranteeing direct intercontinental flights during the tournament. Domestic route expansion also features prominently, aimed at boosting local tourism and improving regional accessibility.
This aggressive growth strategy demonstrates Morocco’s commitment to leveraging aviation infrastructure for economic development, tourism promotion, and enhanced global connectivity, transforming RAM into a competitive force in international aviation markets.
