Palestine thanks King Mohammed VI for his steadfast support for Palestinian cause; Netherlands commends Morocco’s constructive role

The 5th meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held Tuesday in Rabat, was an opportunity for Palestinian minister of state for Foreign Affairs Farsin Aghabekian Shaheen, to thank King Mohammed VI, President of Al Qods Committee, for his tireless efforts and steadfast support for the Palestinian cause.

This meeting hosted by Morocco is another evidence of the efforts deployed by the Kingdom to make the State of Palestine a concrete reality, said Ms. Aghabekian Shaheen during a press briefing held on the sidelines of the Global Alliance gathering.

“We are counting on such supportive events which come at a time Palestine is going through a very delicate situation’’, she added, noting that the Rabat international meeting contributes to the efforts engaged to advance the two-state solution and enrich the work of the high-level conference on the two-state solution, scheduled at UN headquarters in New York next June.

Secretary-General of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Christiaan Rebergen, who took part in the meeting, on his part, commended, Morocco’s constructive role, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the al-Quds Committee, to establish peace in the Middle East.

During a press briefing on the sidelines of the meeting, Rebergen said that the co-chairmanship of Morocco and the Netherlands of this event showcases the quality of bilateral cooperation as well as the two countries’ shared values.

He thanked the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting this important meeting, which is being held against the backdrop of the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza.

The Dutch official reiterated his country’s position in support of the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to the region, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

In his opening address before the meeting, Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita said the two-state solution for the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains the cornerstone for security and stability in the Middle-East region.

The two-state solution is the only option in which there are no losers, because everyone wins, underlined the minister, noting that the Palestinians gain their freedom & dignity, the Israelis secure their security and stability, while the entire region gets opportunities for development and progress.

Organized by Morocco in partnership with the Netherlands under the theme “Maintaining the dynamics of the peace process: lessons learned, successes and prospects”, the Rabat meeting was attended by delegations representing more than 50 countries and international organizations committed to the two-state solution.

The meeting was meant to take stock of efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East, to highlight the successes achieved in this area, and to draw the appropriate lessons for concrete, time-bound measures to relaunch the Two-State solution. The meeting also explored ways of building the Palestinian economy.

The work of the meeting was divided into three thematic sessions dealing with the impact of peace processes in the Middle East, efforts to support the governance structures of the Palestinian state, and the economic foundations of peace in the region.

The resolutions of this meeting will contribute to the work of the high-level conference for the Two-State solution, scheduled to take place at the UN headquarters in New York in June 2025.

Launched at the UN General Assembly High-Level Week in September 2024, the Global Alliance is a diplomatic platform dedicated to the effective relaunch of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. This fifth meeting follows four others held in Riyadh, Brussels, Oslo and Cairo.
