Sahara: Italian MPs support Morocco’s autonomy plan offering realistic solution

Two Italian MPs of Democratic Party have expressed firm support for the autonomy plan offered by Morocco for the Sahara under its sovereignty, commending the “serious, credible, and realistic” plan which is gaining a growing international recognition.

The two politicians, Ettore Rosato and Ouidad Bakkali , voiced their supportive stand at the 2nd Policy Conference of the Coalition for Autonomy in the Sahara (AUSACO) held Tuesday in Dakhla, pearl of Moroccan Sahara.

The two members of Italian parliament hailed the impressive socio-economic development in the Sahara region, which is becoming a hub of peace and stability in the Sahel-Saharan area.

They lauded the excellent Moroccan-Italian relations, describing Morocco as an essential partner of the European Union, a gateway to the African continent, and a bridge linking Europe to Africa.

In 2019, Morocco and Italy signed multi-dimensional strategic partnership roadmap. Italy remains one of Morocco’s major European trading partners, with nearly 200 Italian companies installed in the country and operating in various sectors.
