Sahara: Turkmenistan reaffirms its steadfast backing to Morocco’s Autonomy Plan

The government of Turkmenistan has reaffirmed its strong support to Morocco’s territorial integrity and to the autonomy plan offered by the Kingdom for a lasting and peaceful resolution of the Sahara conflict.

This supportive stand was voiced by Turkmenistan’s Foreign minister Rashid Meredov during the 4th Political Consultations meeting held Thursday remotely between the two countries.

“Rashid Meredov has reiterated Turkmenistan’s support, already voiced during his visit to Rabat in 2020, to the Moroccan autonomy plan and to the UN efforts made to reach an enduring political and mutually acceptable solution to the Sahara regional dispute”, said a statement released by the Moroccan ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During these consultations, the two countries’ top diplomats hailed the excellent relationship existing between the two countries, set out a new roadmap to enhance further bilateral cooperation during the two coming years and praised the collaboration, mutual support and coordination of positions within regional and international organizations, particularly at the level of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Mr. Meredov thanked on this occasion Morocco for joining the “Group of Friends of Neutrality for the Promotion of Peace, Security and Sustainable Development”, set up at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
