Morocco’s citrus make debut in Japan
Morocco started exporting citrus to Japan, one of the world’s most demanding markets in terms of quality and traceability.
“We hope to see more Moroccan citrus fruits in Japan, as the Japanese love them,” said Yoichi Fukuda, a Japanese importer quoted in a statement following the first shipment.
In 2023, Moroccan agri-food exports to Japan reached 18,000 tons, valued at 14 billion yen.
The United States and Australia are the leading citrus exporters to Japan, with Australia providing 51.4% and the United States 40.3% of the imports.
