Gitex Africa opens in Marrakech with participation of 1400 exhibitors

Gitex Africa, the continent’s largest technology festival, opened in Marrakech Monday with the attendance of 1400 exhibitors and 45,000 participants from 130 countries.

Through the third edition of this event Morocco strengthens its foothold as a hub for technological innovation in Africa.

Different stands explore the latest innovation technologies and artificial intelligence as well as telecom technologies such as 5G.

Speaking on a pre-recorded video, head of the government Aziz Akhannouch said Morocco is actively involved in international forums to advocate for ethical, inclusive, and regulated AI that respects human rights, protects the confidentiality of information and personal data, and serves the public interest.

“In the face of the rise of various reprehensible practices, including cyberattacks, we must now collectively consider mechanisms to strengthen our cybersecurity to protect our systems against these unethical behaviors,” he said.

Speaking during the same event, minister in charge of digital transition Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni said Morocco, through its 2030 strategy, is actively contributing to the foundation of a future where digitalization, and through it, artificial intelligence, will benefit everyone.

The event also offers a chance for Moroccan startups to explore new partnerships and prospects for new markets, she said.

This year’s edition of GITEX Africa features a host of sector-specific conferences, innovative initiatives in the creative industry and high value-added networking forums.

GITEX Africa Morocco is also focusing on EdTech, AgriTech, HealthTech and SportsTech, an approach that reinforces the ambition to make technology a lever for socio-economic transformation in Africa.
