Cabo Verde reiterates steadfast support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, commends King’s Africa-oriented initiatives
Cabo Verde has reiterated, on Tuesday, its steadfast position in support of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
The supportive stand was expressed by Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Filomeno de Carvalho Dias Monteiro, at a press briefing in Rabat following his meeting with his Moroccan peer Nasser Bourita.
Dias Monteiro also reaffirmed his country’s full support for the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom in 2007, considering it the only credible and realistic solution to resolve this regional dispute.
The visiting Foreign Minister also praised the United Nations’ efforts as the exclusive framework to reach a realistic, practical, and lasting solution to the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.
The Cabo Verdean position, as reaffirmed by Dias Monteiro, aligns with the international momentum driven by King Mohammed VI in favor of the autonomy plan and the Kingdom’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
For his part, Bourita thanked Dias Monteiro for the steadfast and firm support of the brotherly country for Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and praised the opening of a Cabo Verdean Consulate General in Dakhla in August 2022.
The Cabo Verdean Foreign Minister also commended King Mohammed VI for his Royal Initiatives, for his leadership and for his strong commitment in favor of peace, stability, and development in Africa.
In a joint press release issued following his meeting with Bourita, Dias Monteiro lauded the leadership and remarkable contribution of the King to the international community’s efforts to promote peace, stability, and development on the African continent.
The two officials commended the momentum initiated by the Atlantic African States Process, aimed at making the Atlantic African space an area of co-emergence and stability, as well as a geostrategic framework offering significant opportunities for synergy and cooperation between member countries in key strategic areas such as the environment, food security, health, energy, logistical interconnection, resource pooling, and experience exchange.
Dias Monteiro also hailed the Sovereign’s Initiative to facilitate Sahel countries’ access to the Atlantic Ocean and emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative, which is part of Morocco’s active solidarity with its African brother countries.
Furthermore, the two ministers praised the progress of the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, a symbol of South-South cooperation, which is currently in the startup phase of its implementation.
