Morocco has seized more than 681 kilograms of cocaine during the first seven months of this year after deploying an advanced digital monitoring system at border crossings, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit said.
In a written reply to a parliamentary question, Laftit explained that the Interior Ministry has made the fight against drugs and psychotropic substances a top security priority. The strategy is based on reducing both supply and demand through tighter surveillance of public spaces frequented by young people and minors, and intensified action against known drug trafficking and smuggling hotspots.
The minister said border posts have been equipped with modern detection devices for prohibited and suspicious substances, alongside reinforced inspection procedures. Authorities have also introduced an integrated information system to monitor border points, expanded the use of advanced technologies in technical investigations, and strengthened the skills of security personnel involved in counter-narcotics operations.
Laftit added that enforcement measures are complemented by awareness campaigns targeting students in public and private schools, warning of the dangers of drug use, while nationwide security operations against cocaine trafficking continue.
