Sharjah, guest of honor at 30th Moroccan international book fair
Sharjah will be the guest of honor at the 30th edition of the International Book and Publishing Fair (SIEL), scheduled April 17-27 in Rabat.
To this end, an agreement was signed in Rabat between Morocco’s Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication and the Sharjah Book Authority (United Arab Emirates). The agreement was inked by SIEL General Commissioner Latifa Mouftakir and General Coordinator of the Sharjah International Book Fair Khoula Al-Mujaini.
In a statement to the press on this occasion, Mouftakir said that opting for Sharjah as SIEL’s guest of honor follows Morocco’s remarkable participation as guest of honor at Sharjah International Book Fair’s previous edition.
She also emphasized that picking Sharjah as guest of honor reflects the exceptional ties between Morocco and the United Arab Emirates, thus introducing the general public to the richness and diversity of Emirati culture in general, particularly Sharjah’s. It also promotes exchanges between Moroccan and Emirati writers, poets, and intellectuals.
For her part, Al-Mujaini welcomed the signing of this privileged partnership, which translates the continuity of cultural exchanges between the UAE and Morocco. Many Emirati writers, poets, and intellectuals will be taking part in the 30th SIEL, she said.
This edition will feature a strong representation of Emirati culture through several events and cultural performances by Emirati folk troupes, she added, pointing out that a plastic arts exhibition is also planned with the participation of artists from both countries.
