Egypt: Parliament rejects Palestinians’ relocation plans, warns of regional threat

The Egyptian Parliament has strongly rejected any proposals to relocate the Palestinian people from their land, calling such actions a “grave threat” to regional security and stability. Speaker Hanafi Gebali addressed the issue in a parliamentary session on Monday January 27, emphasizing that the Palestinian cause is not a simple territorial dispute but a matter of a people striving for their legitimate historical rights.

He affirmed that the Palestinian people, with their rich history and sacred land, would never relinquish their rights, stressing the importance of recognizing their inalienable sovereignty.

Gebali further warned that any proposals undermining Palestinian rights would destabilize the region. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to a two-state solution, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. This, he said, was the only path to achieving lasting peace and security for both Palestinians and the wider region. Egypt, which has long played a pivotal role in peace efforts, reaffirmed its dedication to defending Palestinian rights and rejecting any attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

The Egyptian Parliament’s rejection follows a controversial statement by US President Donald Trump, who proposed relocating Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan, following a brutal Israeli military campaign in Gaza. His suggestion was met with swift condemnation from Egypt, Jordan, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The proposal came in the wake of the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 47,000 Palestinians have been killed, and the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders accused of war crimes.
