Morocco mobilizes logistical means, human resources to assist citizens facing cold wave
On the High Instructions of King Mohammed VI, the Ministry of the Interior, together with all the relevant ministries and administrations and the various stakeholders, have taken urgent measures and mobilized all logistical means and human resources to provide support and assistance to citizens grappling with the cold wave hitting several regions of the Kingdom.
In this respect, the walis and governors of the concerned regions and provinces were urged to monitor the development of the situation, coordinate intervention operations, and take the necessary preventive and precautionary measures through a set of actions to ease the burden on the population, in line with the royal instructions, the Ministry of Interior said in a press release.
A command and vigilance center has been set up at the Ministry of the Interior, along with regional vigilance and monitoring committees, as part of the national plan prepared for the current winter season 2024-2025. This plan is marked by significant updates, including the expansion of the targeted areas by adding 185 new villages. Special attention has been given to the populations residing in areas affected by the recent earthquake and floods in our country.
The plan targets 169,134 households, or a population of approximately 872,778 people, living in 2,014 villages across 28 provinces and prefectures.
In line with this mobilization effort, the Ministry of the Interior, through its central and provincial departments and in coordination with all relevant sectors and services, has enhanced its readiness levels for intervention according to the situation’s requirements. Measures include ongoing monitoring and assessment of the situation on the field, ensuring the regular supply of essential goods and heating resources to the affected areas, mobilizing necessary equipment and positioning it near roads likely to be cut off to prevent isolation, organizing the distribution of food aid, blankets, and firewood to the targeted populations in the concerned provinces.
The aim is also to secure immediate assistance to people in critical and emergency situations, ensure the continuity of road and telephone network connectivity, and provide fodder for livestock in affected areas.
The Ministry of the Interior reiterates its commitment to the comprehensive mobilization of all relevant authorities and services to alleviate the burden on the population and provide all necessary support and assistance to address potential damages caused by severe weather conditions, while deploying all required resources and means to ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
