EU Commissioner for Mediterranean: Morocco, key & reliable partner
European Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica has described Morocco as “a key and reliable partner for the EU, in the Mediterranean and beyond in Africa.”
The Commissioner made the remarks in a tweet posted Tuesday on X following her talks with Moroccan Foreign minister Nasser Bourita. She sai her “insightful” discussion with Bourita, focused in particular on ways to jointly strengthen the EU-Morocco partnership in all areas contributing to mutual growth and prosperity.
In November, Morocco urged the EU to defend bilateral partnership with tangible actions not words, alluding to the unfair ruling issued by European Court of Justice scrapping fisheries & agricultural deals with Morocco because they included goods from the southern provinces: the Sahara.
“Morocco expects the EU to prove its commitment to partnership through deeds, not words”, had said Bourita during a joint press briefing held in Rabat with EU neighborhood commissioner Olivér Várhelyi.
“All what has been said in European capitals about the importance of the EU’s partnership with Morocco must be translated into actions and concrete solutions against blackmail and legal & economic harassment,” Bourita had said, making reference to the politically-motivated ECJ verdict against Morocco-EU fisheries and farming accords.
In his latest Green March speech, King Mohammed VI has affirmed that Morocco’s partnerships and legal obligations will never be at the expense of its territorial integrity or its national sovereignty.
