Opening of FIFA Africa Office in Morocco; International Recognition of Kingdom’s Leadership

The World football governing body will open its African permanent office in Morocco, a recognition of the serious efforts made by the North African Kingdom in promoting football across the continent.

The host agreement was signed Monday in Rabat by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, and Head of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa, in presence of CAF President Patrice Motsepe.

The agreement strengthens further partnership set between FIFA and FRMF for the development of football in Africa. The FIFA is upbeat over Morocco’s future and huge potentials. It has awarded the Kingdom the rights of hosting five editions of the FIFA Women’s U17 World Cup in addition to co-hosting FIFA World Cup 2030 together with Spain and Portugal.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Akhannouch said the setting up of the FIFA African Office in Morocco shows the trust of international sporting institutions in the Kingdom.

Infantino, who thanked King Mohammed VI for his engagement for development of football in Africa, said:“ this is a historic and exceptional day for FIFA, for Morocco, and for Africa.”

For his part, CAF President Patrice Motsepe thanked the Moroccan Sovereign, government and people for their support to African football, noting that CAF is proud of Morocco’s achievements.

The establishment of the FIFA Africa Headquarters in Morocco was announced on the sidelines of the CAF Awards 2024 ceremony held in Marrakesh.

Marrakech also hosted the meetings of the CAF Executive Committee that discussed the 2025 CAF calendar, amongst other matters, as well as the meeting of the presidents of CAF 54 member associations.
