Egypt boasts strong cooperation with EU in migration file

On Monday September 09, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, praised the strong and impactful partnership between Egypt and the European Union (EU) in managing and promoting both regular and legal migration, while addressing illegal migration.
In a joint press conference with Ylva Johansson, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Abdelatty highlighted several collaborative programs between Egypt and the EU in the migration sector. He expressed gratitude for the EU’s assistance with border control, capacity building, and training.
Abdelatty also noted Egypt’s unique approach to handling a large influx of migrants, stating that the country does not use refugee camps. Instead, refugees live integrated with local communities and receive generous treatment despite Egypt’s challenging economic conditions.
He further mentioned that an agreement signed during Johansson’s visit in March elevated their bilateral relationship to a strategic and comprehensive partnership, covering six key areas: migration, investment, security, politics, and youth exchanges.
