South African court withdraws lawsuit against 95 Libyans arrested in illegal military camp

The South African White River Court has made the decision to drop its lawsuit against the ninety-five Libyans being held at the unauthorized Mpumalanga military training camp.

African media said that the court moved the Libyans’ case to the Ministry of Home Affairs for administrative handling, dropping the accusation of breaking immigration legislation.

The court granted the urgent request of the 95 jailed Libyans’ legal representation to appeal the case.

In response to their alleged immigration law violations, the detainees were brought before the court on Thursday, August 15, according to a representative for the National Prosecuting Authority in Mpumalanga.

The 95 Libyans were detained at a possible military training camp in the South African city of Mpumalanga, and they were charged with violating immigration laws. According to a police spokesman, the police activated the ProvJoints Regional Operations and Intelligence Structure two days prior to the arrest after receiving intelligence about the suspected camp that was raided in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
