Moroccan airline RAM to resume Casablanca-Beijing flights in January 2025, to launch Casablanca-Toronto route in December 2024
Moroccan flag carrier Royal Air Maroc said it will resume direct flights linking Casablanca and Beijing starting 20 January 2025, and will launch Casablanca-Toronto route on 8 December this year.
The airline will operate three flights weekly between Morocco and China, after nearly a five-year halt suspension due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
RAM will be using its Boeing 787-9 long haul airplanes with a capacity of 302 seats, the company said in a statement.
The route will benefit tourists and trade between the two countries, RAM CEO Hamid Addou said in a statement.
As it seeks to diversify its tourist emitting markets, Morocco sees enormous opportunities in the Chinese market, which has 130 million tourists traveling abroad annually and spending generously.
Morocco has lifted visa requirements for Chinese citizens in 2016, during a visit by King Mohammed VI to the country.
As to the Toronto new route, RAM said it expands its transatlantic network with non-stop service to Casablanca.
RAM’s Toronto Pearson-Casablanca flights will start December 8, with service operating on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flights will be operated on a 274-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft.
This is the airline’s second route serving Canada. RAM’s North American network currently serves Montreal, as well as a selection of U.S. airports – these being New York Newark, Washington-Dulles and Miami.
The flight is part of a plan to strengthen networks in the Americas.
RAM’s CEO Hamid Addou says the new route to Toronto responds to the high demand from Moroccans residing in Casablanca and Ontario. Immigration, notably, also continues to be strong to Canada from Africa.
“It will significantly enhance the existing service offered by the airline, which has had the historic Casablanca-Montreal route since 1975 and currently operates two flights per day,” Addou told Morocco World News.
Royal Air Maroc will be the third carrier to offer flights between Africa and Toronto-Pearson, adding to flights offered by Ethiopian Airlines from Addis Ababa and Egyptair from Cairo.
The new Toronto service also offers connections to destinations such as Madrid, Barcelona, Tunis, Milan-Malpensa and Cairo.
