Spain’s migration cooperation with Morocco is exemplary, Interior Minister says

Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska this Friday commended cooperation between Morocco and Spain on migration, describing this cooperation as “exemplary”.

“Cooperation between Morocco and Spain is exemplary. We have been close, reliable, and loyal partners for a long time,” the Spanish minister told the public television channel TVE.

In January, the Spanish official made his first visit abroad to Morocco following the inauguration of the new government. During this visit, the Minister stressed, in an exclusive interview with MAP, that “the foundations of cooperation between Morocco and Spain have been built over the years on shared goals and principles, within a framework of mutual trust and absolute loyalty, enabling both parties to develop means of interaction in a spirit of effectiveness and efficiency.”

Morocco and Spain are linked by a multi-dimensional strategic partnership, encompassing all fields, thanks to the roadmap adopted in April 2022, during the visit of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sanchez, to Morocco, at the invitation of King Mohammed VI.

The roadmap has laid out a multidimensional and more ambitious vision of bilateral relations.

The ongoing momentum in bilateral relations, particularly in light of the visit of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to Morocco in April 2022 and the strength of these relations were also reviewed at a meeting Thursday in Madrid between Morocco’s Ambassador to Spain, Karima Benyaich, and Speaker of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Francina Armengol.

During this meeting, Benyaich and Armengol hailed the “excellent relations that have always united the Kingdoms of Morocco and Spain and the two Royal Families”, praising the close cooperation between the governments and parliaments of the two countries.

The meeting also underscored the importance of the upcoming plenary session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, which will be held next week in Morocco, and which is expected to strengthen cooperation ties in the region.
