Coach Regragui to lead Atlas Lions in South Africa game as CAF lifts suspension

Morocco coach Walid Regragui will be able to lead the Atlas Lions in the first knockout stage game against South Africa after CAF lifted his suspension.

Regragui was banned for four games by CAF following a spat with captain of DRC and the ensuing altercations between players from the two teams, after their group game last week.

Morocco’s football federation denied any wrongdoing by Regragui and asked for an appeal.

“The CAF Appeal Committee has overturned the previously imposed suspension against the national team coach. This decision was made after considering the arguments presented by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF),” announced the Federation.

Morocco secured their place in the round of 16 as the winners of Group F, with 7 points by defeating Tanzania and Zambia, and drawing with DRC.

The Morocco-South Africa match takes place on Tuesday Jan. 30.
